Vinyl ID is a small device and companion app that identifies the records you play and keeps a private history of your listening. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and what we will never do with it. It applies to the Vinyl ID mobile app, the Vinyl ID device, and this website.
The Vinyl ID device listens to the music playing near your turntable in order to identify it. Audio is used solely for music identification. We do not use audio for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than figuring out what record is spinning.
Two things. First, making the product work: your listening history exists so you can browse it, and your email exists so you can sign in and recover your account. Second, first-party analytics: we look at how features are used in aggregate — tied to identifiers like your user ID — so we can improve the product. Analytics stay inside Vinyl ID; they are never shared with ad networks or data brokers.
Your listening history is private by default to your account. The app includes optional social features: you can accept friend requests and choose to let friends see your listening activity. Both are controlled by you in the app's privacy settings, and you can turn them off whenever you like.
We use a small number of services to run Vinyl ID: cloud infrastructure to store your account and history (Supabase), and music metadata services to fetch album information and artwork (such as Discogs). These providers process data on our behalf to deliver the product and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
We keep your data for as long as you have an account. You can delete your account at any time from Settings in the app. Deletion is scheduled with a short grace period in case you change your mind, after which your account and listening history are permanently removed.
Vinyl ID is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
If we make meaningful changes to this policy we will update this page and the date at the top. We will not quietly change what we do with your data.
